The Executive Committee Report of Viforest for the 2019–2024 term shows that Vietnam’s wood and forest products industry has sustained impressive growth over the past five years, despite ongoing volatility in global trade. Export turnover of wood and wood-based products increased from USD 10.33 billion to USD 16.2 billion and is projected to surpass USD 18 billion in 2025, positioning Vietnam as the leading exporter in Asia and the fifth largest globally.

Commending Viforest’s contributions to the development of the wood processing and export sector, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Quoc Tri underscored the urgent need to renew strategic thinking, operating models, and implementation speed in order to meet emerging standards—particularly requirements related to legal timber and technical barriers associated with emissions and sustainability.

Within the framework of the Congress, the Viforest Executive Committee for the 2025–2030 term was elected, comprising 31 members. Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AA Corporation, was appointed President of the Association.

In his inaugural address, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh emphasized that Vietnam’s forestry and wood products sector should not merely pursue large-scale exports, but rather focus on diversified, high value-added development that delivers tangible benefits to forest growers.

To achieve the target of USD 25 billion in export value by 2030 while ensuring sustainable growth, the industry must concentrate on three strategic pillars: strengthening competitiveness through a closely linked ecosystem; building a national brand for Vietnamese furniture and wood products; and diversifying markets, products, and distribution channels to gain deeper market penetration and leadership.

According to the newly elected President of Viforest, the wood and forest products industry must establish a complete, resilient, and self-reliant supply chain; enhance production capacity; invest in structured workforce training; stay abreast of international developments; and accelerate investment in technological innovation and green manufacturing. Building the Vietnam furniture brand will require four core pillars: sustainability, quality, flexibility, and competitiveness. The sector must also develop a transparent, inclusive data system aligned with international standards, deepen its engagement in global forums, and work closely with the Government on communications efforts to elevate the global standing of Vietnam’s wood industry.
